Guacamelee! follows Juan Aguacate, an agave farmer who is killed by the evil skeleton Carlos Calaca while trying to save El Presidente’s daughter. In the land of the dead, Juan receives a magical luchador mask that brings him back to life as a powerful wrestler.
Canadian studio DrinkBox Studios created a world inspired by Mexican folklore and Dia de los Muertos, full of jokes, references and bright art that looks like a living poster. The Super Turbo Championship Edition on Steam includes extra areas, a new boss and improved controls.

It plays like a metroidvania, with a large map that opens as you gain moves such as the Rooster Uppercut, Olmec’s Headbutt and the ability to turn into a chicken. Combat is a fast brawler system of punches, throws and colored shields that only specific moves can break. Later, you switch between the living and dead worlds at will, which changes platforms and enemies.
