Cities: Skylines arrived in 2015 when city builder fans were hungry for a deep, modern successor to SimCity, and it delivered. Finnish studio Colossal Order created a game with large maps, detailed traffic simulation and districts with their own policies.

Years of expansions such as After Dark, Natural Disasters, Mass Transit, Parklife and Industries, plus the Steam Workshop, turned it into one of the most complete city builders ever. A sequel, Cities: Skylines II, launched in 2023, but the original remains extremely popular for its stability and mods.

Districts let you set policies like a high tech industry area or a smoke free neighborhood.
